How much CO2 and water are needed to produce one PC? This is an important question especially in times of climate change. This is why GTR² provides an online tool to calculate the CO2 emissions caused by the manufacturing of IT products. The GTR² online calculator can help you to find out to what extent companies can protect the environment by using IT remarketing. The life-cycle of every returned and resold IT product has been prolonged which means that less new IT equipment has to be produced. The production of one PC, for instance, requires 164 kg of CO2 and 766 litres of water. This shows that every piece of IT equipment that continues to be used through IT remarketing contributes considerably to a positive eco-balance. By returning their old IT equipment companies also derive a financial benefit because they save the cost of disposal. Instead, they profit from the proceeds when their old IT equipment is sold.
* The value given is a scientifically proven average taken from the following European study: “European Commission DG TREN: Personal Computers and Computer Monitors” (IVF report 07004).

The larger public increasingly calls on industry’s responsibility for active climate protection. Part of it is the careful management of our natural resources and the reduction of greenhouses gases such as CO2. By adopting the GTR² remarketing scheme, companies show that they take their responsibility seriously, even beyond their legal obligations.
